Siding repair
Siding Repair in Littleton After Hail and Wind
Cracked, dented or loose siding can usually be fixed a section at a time, without redoing the whole house. Whether yours can comes down to three things: how much is damaged, whether it can be matched, and what’s behind it.
Can Your Siding Be Repaired?
- How much is damaged? A few cracked or dented rows on one wall is a repair. Damage on every side of the house after a big storm usually isn’t.
- Can it be matched? Siding styles and colors get discontinued, and even the same product won’t match a wall that’s been fading for fifteen years. If there’s no match, your honest options are a full wall or a full side of the house, not a patch that shows.
- What’s behind it? If the barrier behind the siding has failed and the sheathing is soft, new siding just covers the problem. Opening one section is the only way to know before you commit to a scope.
What Hail Does to Your Kind of Siding
Vinyl cracks and punctures. Fiber cement chips and cracks, mostly at edges and corners. Wood splits. Aluminum and steel dent, and the dents show how big the hail was and which way it came from, which also helps document the storm.
There’s no hail rating for siding the way there’s a Class 4 rating for shingles. The Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS), the insurance industry’s research lab, has pointed out that siding and windows have no standard hail test, and it’s working on one. So if someone sells you "hail-proof" siding, ask to see the test. There isn’t a standard one yet.
Why a New Board Can Look Wrong Next to the Old Ones
If a few boards on your south or west wall get replaced, they’ll likely look darker than the ones around them. The sun is stronger at a mile up, because there’s less atmosphere to filter it, so siding here fades and chalks faster than at sea level. A ten-year-old wall isn’t the color on the box anymore. That’s why a match should be held up to the wall itself, in daylight.
Check What’s Behind the Siding
Siding is only the outer layer. The residential code requires a water-resistive barrier behind it, and flashing at windows, doors and anywhere a wall meets a roof. When you find rot behind old siding, it’s usually those layers that failed, not the siding.
A repair opens the wall, so it’s the moment to fix what’s underneath: a torn barrier, missing window flashing, or a missing kick-out flashing where a roof edge ends against the wall. That last one is a common reason water gets behind siding in the first place.
Does Littleton’s Wildfire Code Affect Your House?
Probably not. Littleton adopted the Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code in 2026, and Denver7 reported it covers roughly 3 percent of the city: the properties the state map puts in a wildfire-risk area. Centennial adopted the code with local changes; Greenwood Village didn’t adopt it.
If your house is in a moderate or high fire-intensity area, there’s a line at 25 percent. Replace 25 percent or more of the home’s exterior wall area and the whole wall surface has to meet the new-construction standard. That limits coverings to noncombustible, fire-retardant-treated wood or ignition-resistant materials, and vinyl is only allowed over a fire-rated wall. For those homes, repair versus replacement becomes a real decision, so check your property’s map classification first.
One Inspection for Your Roof and Your Walls
A hailstorm rarely hits only the siding. Your gutters, window screens, roof vents and roof got hit by the same storm, which is why our hail inspection looks at all of them. One company doing the roof and the siding also means one schedule, and one company responsible for the joint where they meet.
Same terms as our roofing: an exact written price before work starts, and no deposit. You pay when the work is finished and you’re satisfied.

Questions About Siding Repair
Can you repair just a few pieces of hail-damaged siding?
Usually, yes, as long as a matching product is still available and the wall behind it is sound. The damaged rows come off and new ones go on. If there’s no match, you’ll know before work starts, along with your options.
Does Littleton’s wildfire code apply to my house?
Only if the state’s wildfire map puts your property in a risk area, which Denver7 reported is about 3 percent of Littleton. For homes in moderate or high areas, replacing 25 percent or more of the exterior walls triggers the new-construction rules, so check your classification before choosing between repair and replacement.
Do you need a deposit for siding repair?
No. You get an exact written price before work starts and pay nothing until the job is done and you’re satisfied, the same as our roofing.
Is fiber cement or vinyl better for a repair?
For a repair, usually whatever’s already on the wall, so it matches. For bigger replacements, fiber cement is noncombustible, which matters in wildfire-mapped areas, while vinyl costs less but can crack in hail and is restricted in higher-risk areas. Neither has a standard hail rating.
